Fraser Island’s ocean beach highways are legal roads and the main thoroughfares for heading north and south, but there is also a variety of inland roads and vehicle tracks which connect the island’s eastern and western resorts.

Usually speed limits are 80km/h on the beach highways and either 35km/h or 20km/h on the inland tracks. Both tracks and beach highways are well within the capabilities of average city drivers, but drivers need to be responsible and make themselves aware of the pitfalls and conditions before setting out.

Please note the following:

1. Without exception, the maximum acceptable weight for any single piece of luggage is 25 kilos.
2. Each guest may check in two (2) items of luggage, weighing a maximum of 25 kilos each.
3. Additional items to be checked in will incur a handling fee of $5AUD per item.

The NPSR website is a great resource for visitors wanting to know more about four-wheel-driving on Fraser Island or those that are planning on spending time in the Great Sandy National Park during your time with us.

We are located in a World Heritage National Park and enjoy a sub-tropical climate and tropical insects/bugs are an Australian way of life - as such all of our resort accommodation has insect screens. Insects can be kept at bay when you are out and about on Fraser Island by natural and insect repellants. Guests can opt to bring their own repellant prior to arrival or our small convenience store has products for purchase.

Fraser Island is located within the Great Sandy National Park, therefore visitors are restricted from bringing dogs, cats or any other domestic animals onto any part of Fraser Island, including the beaches.

Visitors can enjoy sub-tropical climates year-round on Fraser Island. Located in sunny Queensland, you can expect warm, temperate weather and Kingfisher Bay Resort provides a picturesque beachfront location to enjoy this natural paradise.

Summer (Dec-Feb): A popular destination for the school holiday season, with the average temperatures sitting at 29°C.

Autumn (Mar-May): Most seasonal rainfall in Queensland is around February and March, with chances of rain decreasing in April. Autumn also offers brilliant weather and mild temperatures.

Winter (Jun-Aug): Although cooler weather may be experienced in winter, the temperatures are perfect for outdoor activities and are generally far warmer than the more inland regions. The chances of rain are reduced, especially after the end of June, however sunburn protection is still necessary. We recommend packing some warmer clothing for the evenings.

Spring (Sept-Dec): Late winter and early spring are popular due to the start of the tailor fishing season as well as Hervey Bay’s whale watching season (August and October). Temperatures begin to increase after mid-October.
